A collaborative effort by New Riff Distilling (2026 World Whiskies Award “World’s Best Bourbon” winners) and Rhinegeist (Brewers Association–ranked largest craft brewer in Ohio by volume), DUET is a truly special creation. Focusing on barley—the paramount grain in whiskey and beer production—this unique American Whiskey highlights the shared roots of Kentucky’s rich distilling tradition and Cincinnati’s storied brewing heritage. The majority of the blend was aged traditionally in new American oak barrels with select Spanish oloroso and pedro ximenez sherry casks being incorporated into the final blend. The final blend was then re-barreled into used American oak barrels, allowing the whiskey to harmonize and develop a deeper balance of flavor. DUET is a liquid testament to the delicious, convivial contributions of two Greater Cincinnati favorites.

Traditional grain flavors lead, with sherry and delicate savory notes adding depth. Cracker malt and citrus balance the richness, while the sherry carries through to a smooth, lingering finish.
Fresh barley and bright grain lead the way, reminiscent of opening a new bag of barley. Notes of green melon, tangerine, and orchard fruit emerge alongside deeper tones of dark fruit and leathery sherry that add richness and body.

Respecting time-honored techniques while putting a New Riff on an Old Tradition.
The story of DUET begins with decades of friendship. New Riff Master Distiller Brian Sprance and Rhinegeist specialty Brewer Luke Cole first connected years ago through their shared brewing roots. When the opportunity came to work together, it was less about a “project” and more about the excitement of combining our talents and expertise. Between lots of conversations, shared pours, and plenty of laughs, the idea for DUET started to take shape.
Every stage of DUET carries the fingerprints of both teams, each barrel picking up a little bit of Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati along the way. The majority of the whiskey was aged traditionally in new American oak barrels at New Riff, with select Spanish oloroso and pedro ximenez sherry casks woven into the final blend to add complexity. From there, the blend spent time in Rhinegeist’s foeder (a massive oak barrel normally used for beer maturation) before returning to used American oak barrels to harmonize and develop a deeper, balanced flavor back at New Riff. The process was a true collaboration, with each team contributing their expertise, taste, and care at every step.
Even the bottle tells a story of collaboration. Jared Wagner and Chloe Wagner, designers from New Riff and Rhinegeist, came together to bring the visual identity of DUET to life. Their connection extends beyond the bottle: they met while working at FC Cincinnati and married last May, another example of the shared connections and friendships that made this collaboration so special.
DUET is more than a whiskey; it’s a celebration of creating something we’re proud of, together. It’s the joy of crafting, laughing, experimenting, and sharing, proving that when people who respect and love working together combine their talents, the result is something bigger, richer, and more exciting than any of us could make alone.
